"Connecting minds, creating the future" is the theme and motto of Expo 2020 Dubai. The essence of the Universal Exposition is encapsulated in the intercultural and artistic exchange present in every initiative organized during the 184 days of the event. The Republic of San Marino -starting from this very message- presented to the world a pavilion that would bear witness to the cultural connection with the United Arab Emirates and other countries of the world through its main attraction: the Treasure of Domagnano.

Our Republic has shown proactivity and connection to the rest of the world, not only through the exhibition site but also by organizing numerous activities: starting from the participation in the celebrations of the Golden Jubilee with flag shows and artistic workshops, to culinary events to spread the knowledge of typical products, and cultural and recreational events of exchange of the pins of the various nations.

Among the most recent and significant activities under the banner of intercultural dialogue is the "volunteer exchange program" between the San Marino Pavilion and the Saudi Arabian. The initiative has taken place from the second week of February and will continue until mid-March, from 14.00 to 17.00 on Mondays and Fridays.

The program involved groups of three San Marino volunteers who spent a day working at the Saudi Arabia Pavilion. In return, some members of the latter assisted the visitors of the San Marino exposition site.

The main activities planned for the exchange include reception of visitors in the entrance area of the respective pavilions, explanation of the main attractions through guided tours, assistance at the shop, and stamping of Pavilion logos on Expo passports, with assignments based on skills and interests of the participants.

The exchange of information and the transfer of knowledge and culture between the two countries were fundamental for the professional and personal growth of the volunteers who -in addition to making new international friendships- put themselves at play in a different and stimulating context, gaining experience and developing skills such as team working and problem solving.

The creation of this kind of experiences has also made it possible to highlight the vital role that all volunteers play in Expo 2020 Dubai. In fact, volunteers embody a community at the service of the Nation, ambassadors that show the world the best of their own and other countries, sharing with all visitors the meaning of 'Connecting Minds, Creating the Future' through their dedication and commitment.

The exchange program is proving to be a success and has made proud both volunteers and management team of the San Marino Pavilion that has diversified and strengthened the services provided to visitors as well as consolidating its relations with the Saudi Arabia Pavilion in the name of cooperation and inclusiveness.

The comment of the director Letizia Cardelli on the matter: "The friendship between San Marino and Saudi Arabia - strengthened by the opportunity that Expo has provided- is expressed in many ways including this exchange, which has a very powerful cultural significance: dialogue, openness, the willingness to reflect on cultural roots. Once again, people created bonds that will allow whole Nations to understand each other and get closer, even beyond Expo".
