news The Italian Minister of Tourism Massimo Garavaglia visiting the San Marino Pavilion 10 January 2022

Expo 2020 Dubai saw the opening of the Travel & Connectivity Week, which will bring together experts from around the world on sustainable tourism and on new technologies related to travel and movement.

Late yesterday afternoon, Minister of Tourism Massimo Garavaglia, who arrived at the Dubai Expo to participate in the international forum "New Frontiers of Sustainable Tourism" at the Italian Pavilion, also included in his agenda of institutional commitments a welcome visit to the San Marino Pavilion. The Minister -who arrived together with the Italian Commissioner General Paolo Glisenti, the Italian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Nicola Lener, and the President of Enit Giorgio Palmucci- was welcomed by the Pavilion Director Letizia Cardelli

Massimo Garavaglia showed great interest and willingness to follow the guided tour of the Pavilion guided by the volunteers who enthusiastically explained to the Minister the main elements that characterize the exhibition, first of all the Treasure of Domagnano and the iconic crossbow.

The salient moment of the tour took place in the third area -characterized by the presence of the interactive table dedicated to the country system- where the Director Letizia Cardelli illustrated how the Commissariat inside the Pavilion intends to promote a project born from the idea shared by the San Marino Ministry of Tourism and the Italian Ministry of Tourism, which links the Republic of San Marino to Italy. Indeed, one of the digital displays of the interactive table is dedicated to the TTT Project (Tavolo Turistico Territoriale - Territorial Tourism Table) whose primary objective is to enhance the territory, which -by placing the State of San Marino at the center- includes 117 municipalities and the regions of Emilia Romagna and Marche.

The plan consists in the implementation of a type of sustainable and extra-territorial tourism in line with the principles of the 2030 Agenda and it is mindful of the indications of the European Union. Thanks to outdoor activities in nature the most hidden and authentic places are rediscovered, especially in a period still characterized by the pandemic, during which people prefer to stay outdoors.

In this way, San Marino presents itself as a vanguard state, a catalyst for experiential tourism, where sustainability does not only concern the environment but also the economic, social, and cultural factors. This theme thus becomes strategic and crucial, as highlighted during the Forum "New Frontiers of Sustainable Tourism" held at the Italian Pavilion by Minister Garavaglia, who during his visit to the San Marino Pavilion appreciated how a project that involved him personally was enhanced within the exhibition space.
