“This morning, the Secretary of State for Tourism and the Expo signed a Memorandum of Understanding and collaboration between the Commissariat-General of the Government of San Marino for Expo 2020 Dubai and the Agenzia per lo Sviluppo Economico - Camera di Commercio S.p.A. (Agency for Economic Development – Chamber of Commerce), pursuant to Decree No. 73 of May 7, 2020.

As stated in the associated press release, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding marks an important moment in the run-up to the Expo, which is due to open its doors October 1, 2021, remaining open through March 31, 2022.

The Memorandum of Understanding is composed of a total of 30 pages across 12 articles, and has three appendices, which collectively cover the procedures on expenditure and its authorization and registration (a duty entrusted via the decree to the Agency at the behest of the Commissariat) and also govern the technical/financial procedures to be followed both in San Marino and in Dubai.

Commissioner-General Mauro Maiani and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Agency Pier Giovanni Terenzi declared themselves to be highly satisfied with the memorandum, which constitutes a starting point for an effective, transparent partnership. Commissioner Maiani stated: “Now the Commissariat can properly start preparing everything required for participation, and the first task will be to analyze the submissions made for the drafting of the pavilion’s marketing plan, before moving rapidly on to the creation of the content for the pavilion, encompassing graphic design, video and multimedia.”

Agency Chairman Terenzi commented: “The Agency will be an active part in making the participation of the Republic of San Marino as fruitful as possible for the country’s economy and society.”

Secretary of State for Tourism and the Expo Federico Pedini Amati stated that he was delighted with the signing of the memorandum, going on to state: “It is important to press ahead as forcefully as possible to reach the objective of high-quality participation by San Marino in Expo Dubai 2020, which will serve as the springboard for the re-launch of the country’s economic system in the wake of the crisis generated by the pandemic.”
