The Republic of San Marino appoints Toshihiko Takamizawa as Pavilion Ambassador for Expo 2025 Osaka.

Toshihiko Takamizawa, frontman of the legendary Japanese rock band THE ALFEE and a great friend of San Marino, has been appointed Pavilion Ambassador. The plaque presentation ceremony took place last Friday in Tokyo, in the presence of Japanese national media and the official mascot of Expo 2025, Myaku-Myaku.

Tokyo, January 17, 2025 – Toshihiko Takamizawa has been named the first Pavilion Ambassador of the Republic of San Marino for Expo 2025 Osaka. As the leader of the famous Japanese rock band THE ALFEE and a long-time friend of San Marino, Takamizawa was awarded the title of Knight Officer of the Equestrian Order of Saint Agatha in 2019. He stands as a true example of genuine friendship towards San Marino.

General Commissioner Filippo Francini and Pavilion Director Laura Franciosi, already in Japan for the final International Participants Meeting, attended the nomination and plaque presentation ceremony on Friday afternoon in the elegant setting of Bleu Montagne in Tokyo.

Commissioner Francini conveyed greetings from the Secretary of State for Tourism, Federico Pedini Amati, with whom he had collaborated in selecting Takamizawa as Pavilion Ambassador. This decision was made in recognition of the artist’s affection for San Marino, demonstrated by his tireless efforts to promote the country’s history and culture in Japan.

Takamizawa’s extraordinary career, spanning over 50 years alongside the other two members of THE ALFEE, has seen him remain a leading figure in the Japanese music scene with energy and creativity. As a bridge between Japan and San Marino, it is hoped that Takamizawa will one day perform in a concert on Mount Titano and, before that, at Expo, at the end of his Japanese tour starting in early May, as a special guest of the Republic of San Marino.

“San Marino is the world’s oldest Republic, and THE ALFEE is Japan’s most historic band. I believe this combination will lead to a fantastic collaboration. I greatly admire San Marino for being a peaceful country that has never fought a war. That is why I accepted the role of Ambassador, and I will proudly represent San Marino in Japan,” said an enthusiastic Takamizawa. “Considering my age, every year from now on is important. It is very encouraging to have been chosen as an ambassador, and I will strive to meet expectations to the best of my ability,” he concluded with gratitude and a sense of responsibility.

Addressing the many media representatives present, Director Laura Franciosi provided an overview of the Pavilion—its location, design, and content—and invited everyone to Expo on May 3 for the celebration of San Marino’s National Day.

The official mascot of Expo 2025 Osaka, Myaku-Myaku, also attended the ceremony, adding strength and significance to the event.
